About Us

Preamble:

In June 2001, a young Laotian man was shot and killed by a City of Riverside police officer. Several members or the Laotian community came forward to express their concern about this incident, which, as it turned out, occurred simply due to miscommunication. In the course of discussions following this incident, it became clear to all participants that the Laotian community, along with other Asian communities, has for some time been a nearly invisible minority in our midst, partly cut-off from access to jobs, services, etc., due to linguistic and cultural isolation.

This condition of isolation is what the several Asian communities have in common, creating the need for an organization that can facilitate improved communication and delivery of services to this population.
